Austerlitz Nord, close to the heart of Paris
Coordinating architect : Christian Devillers
The sector is bordered by Avenue Pierre-Mendès-France, Quai d'Austerlitz and Boulevard Vincent-Auriol.
Austerlitz quarter
The banks of the Seine host office buildings crossed by private passages opening up perspectives over the river.
The new Rue Paul-Klee links up the riverside with Avenue Pierre-Mendès-France. A square featuring a fountain, a car park, terraced gardens, student accommodation and commercial outlets makes up the urban fabric. France Télécom-Transpac, the Caisse des dépôts et consignations, CDC Ixis Capital Markets and the Caisse d'Epargne group have all set up their head offices there. On the riverbank, the Magasins Généraux buildings have been upgraded to serve as a focal point for fashion and design. The "Docks en Seine" hosts the Institut Français de la Mode, an events venue, a restaurant on the landscaped terrace and ground-floor commercial outlets.
To the west of Boulevard Vincent-Auriol, residential blocks have been preserved and sometimes renovated to combine with the new constructions.
Austerlitz Sud, an urban balcony
Coordinating architect : Bernard Reichen
Landscape designer : Jacqueline Osty
The Austerlitz Sud sector extends the length of Avenue Pierre-Mendès-France, on the side of the railtrack right-of-way. The proposed development is intended to create an urban balcony above the railway lines, opening onto the gardens and historic estate of the La Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital. Split into a succession of 6 to 7 blocks offering contrasted forms, the constructions will enable large planted public areas to be created.
Austerlitz- Gare, gateway to Paris Rive Gauche
Coordinating architects : AREP- Jean Duthilleul / AJN – Jean Nouvel
Landscape designer : Michel Desvignes
The urban planning operation covers 12.8 hectares and is located at the tip of Paris Rive Gauche. It is bordered by the Quai d'Austerlitz and the Boulevard de l'Hôpital and encompasses the railway station and Square Marie-Curie.
This sector faces major challenges: remodelling and enhancement of the historic district; reorganisation of the multimodal transport hub in anticipation of a rise in transport numbers to 44 million by 2020; renewed impetus for local shops and services; creation of a new tertiary hub combining office space with hotel facilities; harmonising development with the existing environment.
